Our Middle School consists of our seventh and eighth grades classes and is housed in a dedicated wing of our facility exclusively used by our older students. Our recently renovated Middle School wing includes lockers for each student, a dry science lab, and generously sized classrooms to accomodate our students. Classrooms are equipped with SmartBoards that work directly with our online curriculum components, and allow our teachers to utlize an assortment of teaching methods.
St. Mary Magdalen employs a 1:1 Chromebook technology program, as each seventh grader is issued their own personal device for use inside and outside the classroom. Much of our curriculum is introduced and explored using the Chromebooks, and students are expected to manage their coursework though the Google Classroom platform. Students in our middle school are switching classes for each of their core subjects, and are taught in smaller groups that are leveled for language arts and math. Every student in the middle school receives instruction in Spanish daily, and many of our students test out of Intro to Spanish at the high school level. St. Mary Magdalen follows the Catholic Diocese of Wilmington curriculum standards, which are detailed HERE.
St. Mary Magdalen has an active National Junior Honor Society chapter, which is open to any middle school student who maintains a grade point average of 3.67 or higher. Membership is also based on leadership, service, character, and citizenship, and our NJHS members complete community service hours over the course of middle school. Our older students are offered many opportunities to take on leadership roles in the school, including through Student Council, academic clubs, and our student-led community service weekend featuring our beloved 3v3 basketball tournament, which typically raises over $10,000 for a chosen charity.
Our middle school program strives to prepare our students to succeed in high school. We offer test prep classes for the High School entrance exam, and work with students in both seventh and eighth grade to strengthen their academic abilities to meet the rigors of high school classes. Graduates of St. Mary Magdalen flourish in high school, and go on to become leaders in their communities. We are proud to send our graduates out into the world as academically strong students, responsible citizens, and disciples of Christ.
