Dear SMM Families,
This is a reminder that any birthday treat that is sent to school must be store-bought
and pre-packaged. This has been policy since the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year and was not implemented solely as a COVID-19 precaution. This is meant to protect our students with known and unknown food allergies. An ingredient list on any treat brought in is very important if any allergy-related questions should arise.
This will remain in effect for the 2022-2023 school year and has been added to the Handbook -----------------------------
READING: Journeys series
We will continue with the Journeys series that the children have been familiar with since first grade.
There are some changes in 6th grade, as we are a bridge year
to the Middle School program.
We will be focusing on Reading skills, as well as the selection in the text.
We do not use the workbook or the spelling words in the Journeys series.
(The Journeys series is also available in an online version.)
In 6th grade, we use a separate text called English; we often refer to it as grammar.
It is a familiar series in its format of examples for the practice exercises. We have separate English grammar tests; they are not part of the Reading test.
